Metro North Youth Employment Program

The Metro North Youth Employment Program (YEP) is an initiative to create and support youth employment opportunities in the region. The program is funded by a special public safety grant through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).

The program provides eligible youth with the opportunity to learn new skills, gain experience in the working world, and be paid $8.00 an hour for up to 30 hours a week. The youth are paid directly by the Metro North REB, and are provided guidance by the Metro North Career Centers.  Eligible worksites, which comprise both public and non-profit local entities, benefit from the work of fully subsidized employees, as well as the opportunity to give youth a chance for meaningful employment.

The REB is targeting public and non-profit agencies in the in the communities of Everett, Malden, Medford, Revere, Somerville and Woburn. Youth counselors, hired by the Career Centers, will visit the worksites on a regular basis to help ease the youth into the world of work.

If you represent a public or non-profit entity in the Metro North Region, please consider having youth work for your organization. You will not be paying the wages for the youth; the REB will pay them directly using funds from the Stimulus allocation. If you have any questions please contact the REB’s Youth Employment Program Director, Josi Chapman, at 617-583-5581 or e-mail at jchapman@mnreb.org
